The Republican Party is one of two major political parties in the United States of America, the other being the Democratic Party. It is also refered to as the Grand Old Party, or the GOP. The Republican Pary was founded in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, the Republican Party rose to prominence with the election of Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president.

IdeologyEdit

The Republican Party is the more socially conservative and economically libertarian of the two major parties. The party generally supports lower taxes and limited government in most economic areas allowing for more economic freedom.

History of the SymbolEdit

The Republican Party has historically been represented by the Elephant. It is unknown when the elephent became the symbol of the Republican Party, but the first depicted in a political cartoon in 1874.

The Republican Party mostly appeals mostly to men, the White race, married (heterosexual), upper and lower classes, religious groups, and older voters.
